Bus/Financial - Human Resources
French term or phrase: en externe
La Direction prend l'engagement de proposer à chaque personnes un poste de l’entreprise, du groupe ou en externe.

This document has to do with the upcoming reorganization and site move, and is talking about the different measures the company wishes to extend to all employees affected by this.

I just can't find this exact term anywhere, but I know that it has a specific meaning, as a "poste en externe" is the opposite of "poste en interne". I'm thinking one is an actual position in a company (en interne), and the other is a consultant-type position (en externe). Am I on the right track here? Any good suggestions on the best way to work this? Thanks in advance.

outplacement or position outside the company or division/group

Explanation:
This simply sounds like finding a position outside the company as in outplacing the individual/group of individuals outside a department or the entire organization.

Often in reorganizations personnel are duplicative or positions are eliminated and HR tries to find or place the employee so he isn\'t on the beach, so to speak.

Per Jane\'s comment. I am not implying a formal outplacement service from an outside outplacement firm. Just finding another position for a redundant employee. Right?

In that case, wouldn\'t you then say, \"offering them a new POSITION\", regardless of where? I almost feel it is splitting hairs anyway, given that where the asker started was the concept of consultancy which we all agree was incorrect. Poste, certainly implies position but I think all of that is subsumed under the general concept of what I said which was \"outplacement or position outside the company or division or group\". In fact, it could be any of that, I am not sure we know given the info we had to work with. : )

neutral  Jane Lamb-Ruiz: This is actually offering them a job opportunity..outplacement is the service offered by the booting company to the booted person.. not sure that they mean that here..see what I mean? They may also offer them outplacement services..see what I mean? :)

in another company

Explanation:
a position in the company or parent company or another company

they are laying off people: they promise either in-house jobs..either in the company or parent company or in another company...

un poste en externe..here is in another company..

a poste en interne..is a position in the company...a poste en externe in my mind would then be a position outside the company, which may well be found through the good graces of an outplacement service or department..but, I don\'t believe the term Poste en externe means outplacement per se..

with a subsidiary

Explanation:
In multinational lingo, "En extern" is often used to refer to a group's subsidiaries...

I agree with Jane that this is not an "outplacement" situation, which usually means putting one in contact with headhunters, etc. My thinking is that the company is offering equivalent placement within the company, the group, or a subsidiary...

agree  Jane Lamb-Ruiz: Oh..right....but there are three types: enterprise, groupe and externe..so now what? but I see what you mean. Only thing is group...I can't buy it 'cause the Ft doesn;t use it. The FT is my rule maker..:)
3 hrs
-> Thanks... see how the second reference is worded: "...or employed by the company, group or subsidiary;" A nice English parallel for "entreprise, groupe ou en externe" if you accept that "en externe" refers to a "filiale" which is likely the case...

neutral  Elizabeth Lyons: This was why I said, right up front, outside the department or division -- not necessarily with a headhunter at all.
