Hello everyone, a little advice would be much appreciated, thanks
this is in a CV and it refers to someone who was a member of UNESCO's French Commission and this is how they became a member,

I'm just thinking that there are generally 2 ways of electing someone:
a) secret ballot
b) show of hands
So, surely, it has to mean b).....

And, weird though it sounds, I can't help noting the link between 'show' and 'spectacle' - are we sure there is no machine translation involved...
