French term or phrase: agent d'entretien PO
This is contained in a reference. The job mentioned must be low-level since the educational qualifications are not demanding. The person involved worked as an "agent d'entretien", an "ouvrier de nettoyage" and an "aide jardinier". I have thought of putting "cleaner" for "ouvrier de nettoyage" and "maintenance (staff)" for "agent d'entretien" but the abbreviation is foxing me. Any ideas?

Clarification request(s) and response
Drmanu49: 12:02pm Sep 5, 2007: Is PO by itself? It could be "petites oeuvres".
Tony M: 12:08pm Sep 5, 2007: It might help to know what sort of company this job is in?
Clive Jones: 12:24pm Sep 5, 2007: Clarifications - I'd thought of "petites oeuvres" but can't find any support for it. "PO" is by itself. The company is in airport maintenance.
Drmanu49: 12:27pm Sep 5, 2007: Ok then I would stick with maintenance person or handyman which is more British.

By the way it's petits ouvrages, see my ref.
Drmanu49: 12:28pm Sep 5, 2007: or menial tasks.
Clive Jones: 12:31pm Sep 5, 2007: Thanks, Drmanu. The word "oeuvres" was the one that seemed too grand! "Ouvrages" appears to fit in well
Tony M: 12:42pm Sep 5, 2007: Do note, though, that the instance of 'ouvrages' in Manu's first ref. has nothing to do with odd jobs, it is referring to minor civil engineering structures!

Many thanks to all who took the trouble to answer. Another plus for Proz! I chose "janitor" in the end although it has an American tang to it. I tend to agree with Bourth that PO could be an abbreviation for "Polyvalent" but in any case it expresses the idea of "odd jobs".

neutral Tony M: I've more often seen 'agent d'entretien' as 'cleaner', but I think you're right with 'maintenance-person', and if indeed PO = peties œuvres, then I would almost say 'handyman' or 'odd-job man'
