Human Resources / Work certificate
French term or phrase: impôts à la source
CONTEXT. The person is responsible for:

• La gestion salariale, notamment les calculs de salaires, de charges sociales et d’impôts à la source, les demandes de frais confidentiels et d’indemnités de résidence, l’établissement de certificat de salaires et d’attestations-quittance, les affiliations et les sorties des employés aux diverses institutions, ainsi que la gestion du portefeuille des assurances sociales et privées.

I thought about "withholding taxes", but I don't know if this is correct. Plus, is "impôts à la source" a synonym of "impôts anticipés " which I find further in the text in the sentence: "Elle était responsable de (...) l’établissement des décomptes de TVA et les demandes d’impôts anticipés suisses."?

tax deductions at source
Explanation:
http://ckclinical.co.uk/contractors/contracting-options/paye...

Working as a contractor on a PAYE basis is the most straight forward option. Working as an employee of CK Clinical, we are responsible for handling all of your tax affairs, holiday pay and insurances as well as giving you access to pension and healthcare schemes.

CK Clinical will handle all tax deductions at source meaning that we will process your wages for you and you do not have to submit a tax return.

Deduction of tax at source

Only a minority of taxpayers pay tax directly to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) every year. The majority of taxpayers pay their tax through deductions that are made from their income before they receive it. This is called deduction at source.

Some of the most common examples of deduction at source are PAYE, see below, and bank and building society interest, see below
Pay As You Earn (PAYE)

http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/your_money/tax/income_ta...

By law, anyone making payments to employees or members of occupational pension schemes is obliged to operate the PAYE system. This means they must deduct income tax and class 1 national insurance contributions from the payments that they make, and must send these sums to HMRC.

tax withholdings

Explanation:
this is when you withhold taxes directly from the employee's paycheck so that he won't be tempted to think it's his money.

here we withhold federal taxes, state taxes, unemployment taxes...

Chances are the employee will recover a good chunk of the money withheld when he files his return. Meanwhile, he will have floated an interest-free loan to the government. Pretty neat when you think of it.

agree  joehlindsay: It is important to note the difference in the meaning of 'tax deduction' in the US, which are items that can be deducted by taxpayer for taxes payable, and UK where it means 'withholding tax'.

agree  rkillings: 'withholding tax' is actually better here, because 'tax withholdings' would include the charges sociales (which some countries are not forthright enough to call taxes, although that is what they are).

agree  John Fossey: This is it for Canada, and there's enough in these two posts to show that for this term its vital to know what the target locale is. "Withholding" is meaningless in Canada (and probably UK) and "deductions at source" is meaningless in the US.
