Bus/Financial - Human Resources | | French term or phrase: grand déplacement | This is relating to an exchange of employees between a French and a British company. I'm having trouble working out the best way to translated "grand déplacement". The employees will be on assignment for at least 6 months so this is more than an overnight stay or a business trip. Would "major assignment" work?

From what you say, I imagine that it is the distance that prevents the employee returning home, rather than the length of the assignment.
