eye of the hurricane

Explanation:
it looks like the phenomenon to which experts attribute such an eye (epicentre) is a cyclone or a hurricane, so that would be the official term. I would shy away from storm because it is a little too vague, encompassing various types of extreme weather phenomena.
Plus, hurricane is listed as a synonym for cyclone in the dcitionary.
