French to English translations [PRO]
Bus/Financial - Insurance / Insurance
French term or phrase: assurance responsabilité civile exploitation
reference to an insurance contract in the context of a maintenance agreement. The full context is a question as to whether the company has "évidence de leur contrat d'assurance R.C;. professionnelle et contrat assurance R.C. exploitation"? I know that we are talking about professional civil liability insurance in the first instance, but how do I translate the "exploitation" in the second?
Is this an insurance that applie to the organization? Is there a standard English translation for this term?

operational/general third party liability insurance
Explanation:
or operational/general public liability policy.

Such a policy covers any liability that the insured may incur towards third parties resulting from their normal business operations and ownership of buidlings, signs, etc. The word "operational" is often omitted or replaced by "general".

The correct translation of "assurance R.C. professionnelle" is professional INDEMNITY insurance, which covers any financial damages resulting from errors or omissions committed by the insured, which will vary depending on the insured's precise occupation. Such cover is normally excluded under the operational/general third party liability coverage.

Twenty + years in international insurance.

I forgot to mention that the professional indemnity cover only applies to errors or omissions that affect a third party rather than the insured!

agree  Eva Blanar: Usually this is to encourage the management (in order to prevent that they run away from challenges), but it might apply to any person in a "key" position (with responsibility).

neutral  Paul Stevens: I would say "third party" rather than "civil", but Eva's comment has nothing to do with this type of insurance

-> You're right about "third party".

-> Thanks, Nikki. Perhaps my added note was not clear enough. The professional indemnity cover protects the insured for claims made by third parties resulting from errors or omissions committed by the insured.
