In the light of the new sentence, I believe that 'pour compte' in the old sentence probably refers to "assurance pour compte" see http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=9ZCTxFw3_jwC&pg=PA125&lpg...
which would explain why it doesn't say 'ouverture de compte'.

Yes you're right I read that one too fast, but it does not mean that they did not understand it as the sentence is correct and understandable.

I beg to differ. A new sentence has replaced the old and it doesn't say anything about opening an account free of charge. What it says is that when the business is created, the manager has six months, if he so wishes, in which to choose his policy even if there are no employees.

The sentence has not been changed but something has been added, and my reply is the same; see below.

The client has finally replied completely changing the sentence!

"Remplacer svp la phrase actuelle « Vous disposez de 6 mois à compter de la date de création de l’entreprise pour souscrire librement ce contrat. Contactez-nous, même en l’absence de salariés dans votre entreprise afin de réaliser une ouverture pour compte gratuite. » par celle-ci : « Dès la création de l’entreprise, le dirigeant a, pendant 6 mois, la liberté de choisir son contrat même en l’absence de salariés. »

It would seem that even they didn't understand it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is confused! That is precisely why I posted the query because I would have expected "d'un compte gratuit" rather than "pour compte gratuit". I did refer this to the client yesterday but haven't heard back yet - I will keep you posted.

Hi Pam. I'm wondering why the French doesn't read "ouverture d'un compte gratuit". What's the "en l'absence de" bit all about? Without their knowledge about it? I'm confused.

I believe this might relate to administrative fees that can sometimes/often apply when you first join an insurance scheme.

that's what I thought it meant but I don't understand why they then go on to talk about a single rate regardless of the number of employees.
