French to English translations [PRO]
Bus/Financial - Internet, e-Commerce / Job title - website manager
French term or phrase: Directeur de la publication
English-language websites don't seem to list one (e.g. The Irish Times).

Website manager?

Content manager?

I think the jist may be that the person in this job is legally responsible for any unlawful content, defamation, etc.

My IT dictionary doesn't provide a translation for this term, grrr!

Thanks.

English translation:Publications Director
Explanation:
I would simply suggest "Publications Director" - there doesn't have to be a direct equivalent... often a literal translation is best, especially when there is a legal implication involved.

neutral  rkillings: Editor in any form is usually a position title separate from the publishing director. It's the editorial side vs. the business side.

Publisher

Explanation:
The FR title sounds like the "Publisher" which in my experience is a non-editorial position, basically the person in charge but who is not supposed to directly interefere with day-to-day operations.

(Google "masthead + publisher" for more examples)

neutral  cc in nyc: I would save "publisher" for éditeur. See http://www.larousse.com/en/dictionaries/english-french/publi...

-> This is true for book publishing. However, "Publisher" is a position at a magazine. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_does_a_magazine_Publisher_do

disagree  rkillings: Avoid. Will be understood as the company, not the person in charge of publication (unless he owns the company!).

-> You could choose to avoid confusion; nevertheless,"Publisher" is the correct title. I have seen this firsthand at more than one magazine. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_does_a_magazine_Publisher_do
