French term or phrase: switch de desserte
not sure how to translate "desserte in this context. This is from a PPT presentation on digital technology. The particular slide this is on has:
HP CORE 6108 (arrow) 1 for 6 switches (arrow) Si plus de 6 switches
de desserte
Mettre le HP 4104

Thanks!

English translation:switches for end devices
Explanation:
If over 6 switches are required use an (additional) HP 4104

I think the 'Mettre' is part of the same sentence coming after desserte. So what it means is that if you require more than 6 end devices (user terminals, printers etc) you will need to plug in the HP 4104 into one of the HP Core switches - giving you more ports/switches. I suppose the HP 4104 is cheaper but less powerful than the HP CORE.

In answer to your latest question: Well no as these refer to the peripherals - I suppose network links would be a more generic term. The idea of "desserte" is the switch 'serving' something - so this something could be an end device or another switch. Cat 3 and Cat 5 are referring to cable standards (look in wikipedia) - so maybe network links or sub-network would cover that.

Notes to answerer
Asker: So you would translate "desserte" as "end devices?" In that case I'm not sure how to translate "desserte en Cat3 ou Cat5." Thanks!
