Tech/Engineering - IT (Information Technology)
French term or phrase: mutualisation
I've already looked through the various entries for mutualisation, but since I don't have an IT background I'm not sure if any of them really fit. It shows up twice in a business plan for an IT start-up:

In a list of product attributes: "forte mutualisation et capacité de montée en charge de l'infrastructure de production."

In this context harmonizing, sharing, pooling, etc. don't really seem to work. And I'm not familiar with the word mutualise and can only seem to find it in a financial context that doesn't apply here.

It's also in a different form here, not sure if it has the same meaning or not. (I'm new to proz, so I'm not sure if I should have split it into two questions or not.):

"La plate-forme mutualise ainsi une plate-forme de paiement et une architecture de services."

I translated it as: "The platform thus optimizes the resources of the payment platform and architecture of services."

Does that seem right?

Thanks!

to pool/to combine
Explanation:
Along the same lines as my answer to "mutualisation," the verb likewise conveys the idea of pooling. I happened to find a use of "mutuliser" that actually includes an explanation of the word:

L’urbanisation d’un SI [système d’information] combine :
• la volonté de pouvoir isoler certaines de ses parties pour pouvoir les faire évoluer facilement
• et l’objectif de mutualiser (mettre en commun avec des SI d’autres partenaires) ou d’externaliser d’autres parties plus stables, moins stratégiques, pour réaliser des économies.

So “La plate-forme mutualise ainsi une plate-forme de paiement et une architecture de services” could be translated as “The platform therefore combines a payment platform with a framework of services.”

pooling

Explanation:
I've found several documents discussing mutualisation as it relates to IT infrastructures, and it is apparent from the context that mutualisation refers to pooling of resources. One example:

4 Un cloud mutualisé ou dédié ?

Dans une architecture classique Cloud, nous sommes dans un contexte mutualisé, car en datacenters globaux gérés ou loués par des fournisseurs. Aujourd'hui, les grands éditeurs (IBM, Microsoft, Google, Apple, Salesforce, etc.) possèdent leurs centres de données. Plusieurs même pour assurer la réplication des données et des environnements que le fournisseur doit assurer contractuellement.

Another example:

L’offre Public Cloud de NTT utilise une infrastructure mutualisée et répond donc aux besoins des entreprises préoccupées par des questions de déploiement et de coûts plus que de sécurité et de fiabilité.

I accidently hit <Enter> before I completed my comment (sorry, this is my very first posting). I was going to say that there are several other examples I could site from various sources that lead to the same conclusion, and that a possible translation of "forte mutualisation et capacité de montée en charge de l'infrastructure de production" might be (loosely) "offers the economy of resource pooling as well as the flexibility of scaling to your production infrastructure," or something along those lines.
