| | head on | Explanation: I came across the following in a dictionary of New Caledonian expressions, which may be useful in your context:
Locution en bout (se dit en boute) Vient du terme de marine, qui veut dire l'avant ou la proue d'un navire. Avoir le vent de bout se dit quand le vent vient du côté de l'avant. Par déformation "en bout" veut dire de face ou de plein fouet. 1) Se disant d'une voiture accidentée par devant : "Celle-là, elle s*est fait cueillir en bout". D'un gars qui a un œil poché : "Celui-là. il a pris un canon en bout !'.
