Like you, I had previously considered 'faux amis' as a linguisitc term. However a little research has shown me a slimming site describing certain fruits as being 'faux amis' of slimmers due to their high sugar content. So I guess 'false friends' makes a kind of sense in that context, although perhaps unusual. I think I would go with keeping 'faux amis' in the french unless the text absolutely demands otherwise. |
