This is the translation I chose, even though the milieu confusingly uses "tender" to mean both "call for tender" and "bid" (which is why newcomers to the scene get a bit fed up). So the initiated are punished, tho' no doubt my purism will not sway them!

Asker: Thank you so much, I had very little time to do a bundle for deadline yesterday evening, so was obliged to ask for opinions, to clear my mind. I looked up "methods of tendering", which exists, so this would have been fine too.

Asker: Many thanks, i had gathered it was the "type" of call, but i'm a bit of a dilettante and this is the first time i've been asked to translate a call for tender, or rather an invitation to tender. As legal terms in English are not always literal translations, am proceeding with extreme caution!

Asker: Many thanks to my peers, fortunately parachutes like you do exist for people who are thrown in the deep end! (how's that for mixed metaphors?) I accepted the job because my work would be overseen by another translator who is an old hand, but we had little time before the deadline and I did want to get it right.

Explanation:
You don't need to include 'call' at all. In current usage, the noun 'tender' does double duty for the tendering process (so that the call for tenders is merely the announcement of it) as well as each bid tendered under it.

Search on, e.g., "hold a * tender for" for examples of this usage.

Asker: Many thanks, I'm sure you're right, I realised straightaway that "tender" was being used throughout the document in ambiguous fashion, and I could have mirrored the trend, but am fearful of double meanings and prefer to be precise. Anyway the deadline was yesterday at 20h00 CET, so it's gone to the client now. cheers!
