assert would be fine if... there's some notion of one party claiming something against another party. Context is needed to know what the general tone is, is this a lawsuit / a contract ??

neutral  juliebarba: put forward a contractual relationship and take advantage of a contractual rel. don't really go together; as you said we'd need more context to be sure. For a claim it is normally faire valoir contre. Could be 'for the purpose of a contractual rel. '
