English translation: without a pre-nuptual agreement

What I don't understand is, did they need a pre-contract (married in England, but the PA was drawn up in France, so do the French use a pre-contract) or is this simply a reference to not having been married before?

Explanation: Pre-nuptial contracts even specify alimony, which I haven't seen in France at least. The meaning is of course, just the simplest sort of marriage where all assets/liabilities are jointly owned.
