French term or phrase: félino-technie OR félinotechnie
The whole first part of this sentence, but in particular 'félino-technie', has got me stumped.

"Le sauvage et l’étrange. La félino- technie est émaillée de deux rêves qui ont souvent hanté les éle- veurs : créer de nouvelles races qui répondent à la fascination du sauvage, et sélectionner des races originales à partir de mutations offertes par la nature."

cat breeding
Explanation:
It's not as fancy sounding as the French (you know the French), but that's what it looks like to me. I guess if you have long grey hair, wear tired woollen pullovers and baggy patched trousers that whiff more than a little of cat pee, you breed cats. If you wear clunky jewellery and a designer silk scarf or even a lab coat, you're into félinotechnie.

A number of websites suggest that the Société Française de Félinotechnie might be the French Cat Fanciers' Association. When you think about some of the strange stuff pigeon fanciers breed, maybe "cat fancier" could well be worked in there somehow.

Many thanks! My instinct says this is probably more 'palatable' (sorry - that was the subject of the majority of my text - the palatability of kibble!!!!! glamourous, eh?) than 'feline technology' for an English readership.

Asker: I really wanted to get 'cat fancier' into the text somewhere, but I just couldn't work it in. I used to know one - a cat show judge - she talked about cats as "a lovely grey boy" and "a wonderful tortie girl". It's a whole other world!

agree David Goward: Do you think the SFF would let our Labrador join? He "fancies" next-door's cat!

agree Flo Demolis: CFA - Cat Fancier's Association http://www.cfainc.org/ "World's Largest Registry of Pedigreed Cats... founded in 1906" // @ Charlotte:No results for "feline technology" on their website, so if they don't use it, I don't think you should either.

agree Francis Marche: Cat Fanciers' Association would be "félinophilie" ("cat-breeding techniques" for félino-technie?)
