French to English translations [PRO] Livestock / Animal Husbandry / Pisciculture | | French term or phrase: évolage | Quand on parle d’assec, on parle aussi d’évolage. La période d’évolage est la période durant laquelle le bassin est inondé, l’assec est celle qui se produit lorsqu’il est vidangé. Cette pratique alterne en fait les cultures végétales et la pisciculture d’étang sur le même site de production.

| | Clarification request(s) and responseIsabelle Villancher: 4:30pm Jan 28, 2007: thank you... though crop rotation seems to refer to the whole process, i.e. assec and évolage put together, so not too sure what to put for "evolage" alone. Will leave it as it is for now as per your 2d answer, thanks!

| | flooding | Explanation: I agree with crop rotation as a collective term, but evolage in my opinion would be flooding. There's a crayfish farm back in my old neighborhood and that's what they do. |

| rotation of crops
Explanation: Carp culture in France is intensive only in about half the area of ponds where fertilizers are used with success. The practice of rotating crops (fish culture for two years and oat culture the following year) has given better results. In Dombes, this is called “évolage”.
