A quality of the conformation of a stallion.

Explanation: qualifie la distance entre la pointe de l'épaule et la pointe de la fesse. Favorisé par une épaule longue et inclinée ainsi qu'une hanche et un ischium longs. Doit toujours être supieure à la taille au garrot.
I think they are talking about a horse being "étendu dans son dessus", which, I believe, means that the horse has a stretched topline. I've never seen "étendu" (dans son dessus), but I think it's the same thing.

I went with: a ravishing pony, elegant with a lovely topline and oozing presence. I get the observations about 'stretched' but in this context we are talking about his general conformation and nothing to do with collection or extention (ie when he is moving). I've glossed it.
For the asker: We usually refer to the topline as the 'horizontal' bit of the back not including the neck, so your previous ideas are sound. 'Good length of back' sounds ok.

Asker: Thanks Matthew. This is a term I've been struggling with quite some time now, and I've frequently replaced it with 'Topline'. However, now I've read the French definition of topline I wonder at how accurate I've been, because topline would almost certainly include the part of the horse that runs from the poll to the withers (neck). I've also used 'good length of back' in the past, but I'm not convinced that's all that accurate either. Reasuring that someone's thinking along the same lines as me though!
