From a report on environmental projects in Haiti (term only used once):

XXX, dans le cadre du programme de préservation et de valorisation de la biodiversité en haute altitude, a accompagné dans la mise en place de cultures maraichères pour environ 600 paysans de certaines conditionnalités à respecter. L’accompagnement de XXX prit la forme de formations poussées, d’un subventionnement des intrants (semences) et de la possibilité de recevoir une prime pour les personnes qui rassembleraient au moins la moitié de la quantité de fumier nécessaire aux surfaces qu’ils entendaient cultiver. Ces paysans avaient ensuite la responsabilité d’aller vulgariser la technique auprès des autres cultivateurs de leur région, ce qui eut très rapidement un impact important sur l’augmentation de la production maraichère régionale. Une des autres contreparties était de participer à des activités de reboisement de clairières à l’intérieur de la forêt avec des essences forestières locales. Ces activités sont également accompagnées de nombreuses actions de sensibilisation auprès de la population locale pour la conservation de la forêt en général et contre la pratique du bois gras, des incendies de sous-bois et de ***l’élevage à la corde*** dans ces mêmes plantations.

Apparently, this system is used in Haiti's plains and, during the farming season, in its mountains, although I haven't been able to find an actual definition of what it might be... Any suggestions?

Ce système décrit par divers auteurs sous le simple nom de <<parcage>>
consiste à immobiliser les animaux pour la nuit sur les parcelles de culture après la
récolte ou, en saison des pluies, sur des jachères. Les animaux sont, en général,
attachés par les cornes à un piquet, ou parfois à un arbre ou à un tronc d’arbre; les
positions relatives des animaux dans le dispositif sont en général respectées lors des
déplacements de celui-ci ; l’ensemble du <<parc>e>s t en effet généralement translaté
d’une parcelle à l’autre ou sur la même parcelle, à un rythme variable (de quelques
jours à une quinzaine de jours au maximum), de manière à répartir les déjections
(Lhoste, 1986).
Cette technique du parcage, très commune en zone soudano-sahé lienne, est
le moyen privilégié utilisé pendant la saison sèche pour la fertilisation des champs de
céréales qui forment souvent la première auréole autour du village (<(TOI keur>> en
Wolof au Sénégal ou cPom bod>> en Sereer).
En saison des pluies, le parcage est moins systématique ; il peut, dans le
meilleur des cas, avoir lieu sur les jachères assolées, destinées à une remise en
culture l’année suivante. Parfois, pour limiter les risques de dégâts sur les cultures
avoisinantes, les troupeaux sont rejetés en dehors des zones de culture et ils
parquent alors dans des parcours boisés, avec un gaspillage certain de la fumure
organique.

En saison des cultures, les bovins sont élevés « a la kod » (à la corde) dans toutes les parties de l’écosystème (en plaine, sur les jachères pâturées de zeb kodagain, sur les jachères courtes d’intersaison ; dans toutes les parties du mòn à l’exception des versants trop abrupts). Nombreux sont les exploitants qui les laissent divaguer en saison sèche, malgré l’interdiction de cette pratique et les dégâts qu’elle peut occasionner, en particulier dans les champs de bananiers et de canne à sucre. Lorsqu’ils les attachent en saison sèche, certains éleveurs distribuent des stipes de bananiers et de la canne à sucre issus de parcelles attenantes à la parcelle de pâture: ce transfert de biomasse contribue à entretenir le taux de matière organique dans les parcelles de pâture. Les bovins restent sur la pâture pendant la nuit, même si celle ci est éloignée de l’habitation de l’éleveur.

L’élevage à la corde contraint les paysans à déplacer leurs bovins 2 à 3 fois par jour en saison humide, 4 à 5 fois en saison sèche. Ces déplacements fréquents nécessitent un investissement en temps assez considérable, en particulier lorsque l’éleveur réside en plaine et qu’il amarre ses animaux au niveau du mòn (voir tableau 13).
