French term or phrase: insémination artificielle des cannes

Although I know what these words mean, I cannot find out what the proper English word would be for the context of this medical report.

The sentence containing the term is describing the job the patient involved in this lawsuit had during the time of the report.

Here is the context:

Situation socioprofessionnelle
Au moment des faits, Mme XXX travaillait à temps plein en CDI pour la Société XXX depuis janvier 2005 en tant que « retourneuse » dans l'insémination artificielle des cannes.

There isn't any more information on this in the rest of the document. I hope someone will know what this is.

Lol, yeah, I could see that working as well. I was thinking that retourneuse referred to someone who had returned to their job. Now that I see the animal husbandry context, I pretty sure my initial answer is wrong. Perhaps the person turns the eggs after AI, or both does the AI and turns eggs. I'm thinking the first of the two, an egg turner in the AI of ducks.

as the French is already in quotation marks I would just go with a literal translation eg "turner"

..if the company is in the business of breeding ducks, they shouldn't also be involved with hatching the eggs; I can't imagine the AI is exactly a full-time activity, so presumably they must have several other tasks to do as well.

I don't think so, although I sure do see your point, and had a similar thought myself, but the "cannes", I just don't get it! Hope someone knows!

Yes, "canes".

The only use of "retournement" I know of with raising ducks is the action of turning the eggs, often still done by hand. I haven't found any reference to "retourneur/-euse" at the insemination stage.
