A possible definition of the marketing myopia, according to Wikipedia (and extracted from Theodore Levitt's "Marketing Myopia":

An average is only a number among others, so myopie de la moyenne may represents that blurry zone, as it isn't a technical term in statistics.

perhaps it does mean that it may be under their noses, the immediate knee-jerk reaction, but that they look much further than that i.e. that they are deliberately blind to the commonplace. Or they used the wrong word....

As you say. My alternative explanation was that they meant they provided critical distance, looked beyond Mr Average to identify niches, or something. But that seems to be reading a lot into it.

I'd have rather thought it meant 'the short-sightedness of averages' — but I can't really see how that could be being used as some kind of positive selling point, so I can only assume I must be wrong!
