"loss", "depreciation", "devaluation", or "writedown" ? Explanation: The "insurance premium" part causes me to wonder exactly what kind of risk is foreseen here, and whether the previous answers having to do with stock trading might not be too specific. I'm not aware of insurance policies against market risks (though in London, you can find someone to place bets on anything). To split hairs further, it isn't the "premium" that provides protection, but rather the insurance that it purchases. By analogy, it isn't the "rent" that keeps you in an apartment if you don't pay it! In any event, perhaps a more general term such as my suggestions above will cover the need, without knowing more about the context. There is, for example, a form of insurance called "financial surety bond" for which these terms could apply. Also international "political risk" insurance which sometimes covers an industrial investor or exporter against currency devaluation (though it's normally only meant for currencey inconvertibility). My suggestion: "To demonstrate, supported by numbers, that [payment of] the insurance premium could provide protection against a risk of very serious financial loss."
