agree  Dylan Edwards: Actually I think you could well be right, though I agree with the other answer on what the letters actually stand for. "Near East" seems to be mainly a historical term nowadays, and includes what is known as the Middle East (see New Oxford English Dict.)

agree  Jean-Luc Dumont: Middle-East countries or Middle-Eastern countries

agree  Sarah Ponting: yes, it actually stands for Near and Middle East, but the countries of the former are usually included in the latter nowadays :-)

agree  Nadine Brittan: yup
13 mins

agree  Carolingua: so in English that would be something like "near and middle east", since "far east" includes countries like China

agree  xxxCMJ_Trans: yet another solution has been chosen - too fast a reaction perhaps?
19 mins

agree  Dylan Edwards: Lots of websites indicate this is what PMO stands for. It's probably just "Middle East" in English (see what the New Oxford English Dictionary has to say about "Near East"!)

disagree  Jean-Luc Dumont: Far East n'est pas le Moyen-Orient, c'est l'Extrême-Orient dans le sens d'Asie - du Pakistan au Japon par l'Indonésie Commence
11 hrs

neutral  Sarah Ponting: in this case it should be Near and Middle East
