Excuse the lack of accents in the French - I have taken this from a paper text. It is from a document about two companies wishing to enter into a joint venture to market a certain product 'A' in a new country.

Company X has agreed to do most of the marketing and brings to the joint venture all their expertise in the field, plus storage facilities.

Company Y will take care of the production in the new country and will fit out the factory etc.

The product is evidently sold by the kg. X wishes to buy it from Y at a price of 1.20 Euros per kg from Y. They have found out that it can sell at 1.83 euros in the new country.

I just want to make sure I have understood it correctly. Does it mean that, even though they have found out that the product can sell at 1.83 in the new country, company X still wants to buy it from company Y at 1.20 (which company Y thinks is a bit low) on account of their large tonnage commitment (550T) to the project.

English translation:(wants to) have a share of 550 t at a price of...
Explanation:
I don't quite see where the confusion lies?

'at a price of..' is quite normal

I guess they just want to take the lion's share at 'trade price' so they can make all the profit on this part for themselves.

Is your third 1,20 euro in fact correct? It seems to me it should read "There will still be 450 t left for the JV to sell at a [normal retail] price of 1,83 euro /kg" ?? This is the only bit that leaves me perplexed.

Dusty, I nearly gave you an extra point for spotting the error...but I am sure you have enough points already! :)

agree  Kieran McCann: surely 1.83 is the retail price which X will obtain for all it can handle, while remaining production will be sold to other retailers but still at the wholesale price of 1.2?

-> Thanks, Kieran! That's certainly another way of looking at it that I hadn't thought of...
