Mise en place d’une bande annonce sur la messagerie téléphonique d’attente.

This is taken from a document about marketing activities. I know that a 'bande annonce' is usually a movie trailer - but I think in the above it means some sort of advertisement or 'trailer' included in the 'call waiting' message that keeps customers hanging on the line (unless they're like me and hang up!)....can anyone suggest a neat way of saying this in English? I would be most grateful, because I just can't think of one right now. Thanks.

French2English: 12:55pm May 22, 2006: I have noted... - ... all the interesting answers and comments and after much deliberation have decided that 'on-hold advertising' sums up best what is meant here...it is more than a message, it is taking advantage of your customers hanging on the line to advertise more of your products, special offers etc. I guess I could have provided more context (was in a bit of a hurry at the time), so apologies if I misled anyone...I am sure that there are instances where it would simply mean an outgoing recorded message or announcement - very many thanks to all answerers.

This can also mean sound tracK, but quite obviously it doesn't mean that here. Maybe recorded message?

Explanation:
You're right, it's a 'tape' used for 'announcements' --- the company I work for specializes in recording them.

I think we just don't express it in the same way in EN.

We'd say, for example, 'outgoing message' for an answering machine (FR: message d'acceuil)

I think the best way to arrive at the equivalent usage would be to use 'recorded...' followed by message, advert, announcement, depending on what its purpose is.
