Tech/Engineering - Marketing / Market Research / Marketing
French term or phrase: Étude et vision globale des projets
This is an excerpt from a marketing piece by an electronics company offering 'made-to-measure connectivity', so to speak.

I am taking 'vision global' to mean 'overview' but am wondering how to get this phrase into a similar, concise English phrase including the meaning of 'etude' here... This company designs and manufactures whatever electronic connector the client needs, so it is a question of doing a 'study' of the project beforehand. I am reluctant to say 'study and overview' because that sounds a bit meaningless in English - any better efforts out there? Thanks!

Clarification request(s) and response
French2English (asker): 3:37pm Mar 1, 2005: etude - 'Etude' is always a woolly one - never quite sure in texts like these whether it is referring to the actual design of whatever product, or research/study prior to designing it!
Conor McAuley: 5:14pm Mar 1, 2005: I guess you have to take an educate guess - no other option without more info. Good luck. -
Conor McAuley: 7:03am Mar 14, 2005: I came across the expression "Product Engineering" as a translation of "étude" today, I think it fits the bill. -

This is what I went with in the end. I think the research/study bit is inherent in the idea of 'design' (at least one would like to hope so, otherwise I certainly wouldn't recommend these product designers!) so I felt that 'design' would do it. I also appreciated the suggestion of 'comprehensive' and added it in. As 'comprehensive overview' sounded tautological to me in English (I prefer to leave the tautology in the source language!) my final phrase was: 'comprehensive product design and overview' - so that the 'comprehensive' only qualified the 'product design' and not the whole lot! I probably spent far too much time on this...and it will be interesting to see what feedback, if any, I receive on that point.

\"Project Feasibility Study\" and \"New Product Feasibility Study\" get quite a few Googles, remains to be seen if these expressions fit your context.

another problem...

Explanation:
...you have is whether globale is qualifying both Etude and Vision, or just Vision.
I sometimes like to use "comprehensive" for "global", according to how I'm feeling (!).
So perhaps you could use this as an equally ambiguous English qualifier before your nouns, like so:

Comprehensive overview (yup, overview for "vision") and study of/investigation into the project.

It's kinda neutral, covers all the stuff the (vague) French covers and doesn't sound to weird (to me). Just an idea.
