any ideas on this. I think this means that the laminate is not fitted or attached without glue??
Or "floating installation"? The sentence would need a little re-arrangement, but that is what one sometimes hears on this side of the language divide ;)
it translates 'parquet flottant' (etc.); the real problem here is how to deal with the fact that it is 'pose flottante' — so we somehow need to get the idea of the floor laying in there
I'd go along with Ann, I regularly hear the term "floating floor" with no reference to the lack of gue.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floating_floor
and http://www.floatingfloor.co.uk/Floating_Floors.htm
which states:
"Floating floors are types of floors or flooring materials that can be set up in a room without needing to be attached to the actual sub-floor underneath the room. These floors literally ‘float’ above the sub-floor and do not have to be glued or nailed to the actual floor beneath them. This term is often used to describe laminate flooring which is simply slotted or clicked together when it is laid in a room."
This also gives you options for translating "clipser"
US EN tends to say floating, without reference to the glue/adhesive, as it is "understood." 3 methods of installation "Glue-Down, Nail-Down or Floating" (from www.lumberliquidators.com, a flooring distributor).
