"ANALYSE EXPLICATIVE
Does it mean the model does not explain the variance? |
| | Clarification request(s) and responseHelen Genevier: 5:12pm Nov 7, 2006: It was really the part marked *** that was giving me trouble - how to word " ***Le modèle n’était pas explicatif*** David Sirett: 5:28pm Nov 7, 2006: I think you are correct--but it is difficult to say, as we don't know what the "modèle" is, what is measured by "score Y", what the difference between the two groups is, ... Helen Genevier: 5:50pm Nov 7, 2006: Hello David - Point taken :-) I was trying to keep it confidential but maybe I went too far! Score Y is a typo for score X (my mistake), which is their measure of "etat cutané", a composite that includes all sorts of scores about wrinkles, bad skin etc. The 2 groups are patients and controls (those asking for cosmetic treatment vs those visiting their doctor for another reason). The general aim of the study is to find out whether women who ask for cosmetic treatments actually have worse skin or just perceive it as worse. No "model" is explained in the text, and I understood it as some statistical way of saying "the hypothesis that skin condition is related to self-esteem", though I am not sure about that. Dr Sue Levy: 10:02pm Nov 8, 2006: The ANOVA *is* the model. Here the outcome/dependent variable to be "explained" is self-esteem, and the explanatory variables are the group (seeking treatment yes/no) and the skin condition score (composite variable - continuous/categorical?)
