French term or phrase: patatoïde
Hi

Is there an English equivalent of this or should I call it a "random shape"? A "spudoid"?!! ;-)

Here's a definition from Wiki:

Un patatoïde est un volume dans un espace géométrique qui est absolument dépourvu de toute symétrie ou de toute propriété remarquable. Ce nom dérive de la pomme de terre (patate), dont l'aspect est similaire.

Le terme est couramment utilisé dans l'enseignement de la géométrie pour désigner un objet sans propriété géométrique utile.

Many thanks in advance.

potatoid

Explanation:
I do prefer spudoid, I must admit, but potatoid exists (though uncommon). There are some intersting images of "potatoids" here:

Asker: Thanks Chris. I hadn't even thought of "potatoid" - Well, when the chips are down, thank goodness for Proz (sorry!).

Asker: Indeed, even the ones I buy on the market are lovely ovals when I would love to find a rude carrot and a heart-shaped spud!

Asker: Thanks Emannuelle. The problem with "potato shape" is it makes me think of something, well, potato-shaped or oval-ish whereas a "potatoid" I think can be any weird form.

Asker: Thanks Emmanuelle, seems I was overcomplicating matters!
