French term or phrase: unique
I'm having difficulties understanding the concept of "unique" in this context:

"Si l’on suppose que le salaire est unique dans l’économie et qu’il progresse au rythme de la productivité moyenne"

The translation is about input costs and the generation of higher productivity gains.

agree  rkillings: Right word. Assume there is an economy-wide single wage rate. (And you do want 'wage' rather than 'salary'.) It's the price of the L (labour) factor of production.

consider / assume that ... stands in isolation within

Explanation:
I'm no economics expert, but I suspect this is trying to say that, for the purposes presumably of simplifying the calulcation, the salary is being looked at in isolation, i.e. without taking into account its interactions with other factors, for example.

VERY low confidence here, just a hunch that may perhaps end up leading you in the right direction...

Right, then this clearly couldn't be right, though we are labouring under a serious absence of context.

agree  Ronald van Riet: perhaps not the proper words, but I think it is the proper understanding

-> Thanks, ROnald! I think that RK may have a point, but we probably need more context to be able to tell for sure.

disagree  Constantinos Faridis: really wouldn't make sense in the context as given; the ref. quoted is a quite different usage.
