French to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Mathematics & Statistics / probability distribution | | French term or phrase: Gamma avec décalage | This is a paper about the "loi de probabilité GEV" (Generalized Extreme Value probability distribution) used to model surgery times in an operating suite.
Would it make sense to translate décalage as 'skew' in this context? Hence 'the Pearson II distribution, which is a gamma distribution with skew'. Text mentioned skewness earlier when discussing a graphical comparison of GEV and standard normal probability densities (Nous remarquons quelques écarts relativement à la moyenne, le maximum et l’asymétrie (appelé Skewness). Or is it the more usual 'shift' or 'offset'? |

| Grading comment I checked with the author, who suggested "shifted gamma distribution", saying "In fact, the shift parameter has the effect of shifting the curve to the right or left by an amount. It is also called 'location parameter'." Gets support in a Pearson context so I assumed the client knew best! Thanks. 1 KudoZ points were awarded for this answer |
