In any case, the word "chicane" exists in English. It is a narrow and or twisting passage. If you watch motor racing, for instance, you will see a number of Formula One tracks with chicanes, a quick left-right or right-left turn, a sort of mini-S, intended to slow them down for safety reasons or to spice up the race by providing passing opportunities, etc.
In the case of a string or cord, it may serve to prevent a build-up of slack, in much the same way as the "frein".
