Actually you might consider reexamining the breakdown of the sentence to see how a different interpretation works in context. A number of ghits use the expression when a part is "prise en sandwich" between other parts. One site, for example, recommends that when drilling holes in thin sheet, the sheet be clamped between two pieces of sacrificial wood (entre cuir et chair) so that the holes are clean.

The expression also comes up repeatedly in relation to "perçage", implying that it has more to do with the hole than with the bolt.
