Yes, Chris, I agree. But with the choice between hydraulic manifolds and hydraulic drilling rigs, I'm going for the first. I have flagged it up to the agency and no, I'll probably never know.
I think Liz is on the right track with the typo. It's the "bloc" and not the "foret" which is being made here. Certainly a GiS for "bloc hydraulique", "bloc foré", "hydraulic manifold" and "hydraulic block manifold" all turn up similar looking items. As mentioned before, I have no website and no context (it's a brief news item amid many others), but this fits my context (quoted in the question) nicely.
The historic "forets hydrauliques" referred to in Vitaly's reference would have been water driven, but I think the same general idea applies (though not to cannons). It is unfortunate that, owing to an accident of history, "hydraulic" nowadays often refers to high-pressure oil, as well as to other, water-related works, especially in FR. I think it's safe to assume that the present installation is driven by oil, not water. Sometimes a "bloc hydraulique" can refer to a high-pressure manifold, but that isn't the meaning here.
Given that a "forêt" (mea culpa - no accent!) is also a drill-bit (presumably related to "forage"), could this be a hydraulically operated drill-turret? High speed mass-production often uses these where holes of different sizes need to be drilled in the same work-piece (eg an engine block). Does XX have a website which might offer some clues?
