"Il est évident que l’invention ne se limite pas à une telle configuration des moyens d’absorption d’énergie et que d’autres dispositifs tells qu’une bande filaire en hélice, une bande à déformation de matière ou une bande à enroulement spiralé peuvent être envisagés dans une colonne de direction réglable sans pour autant sortir du champ de l’invention."

My translation:

It is obvious that the invention is not limited to such a configuration of the energy absorption means and that other devices such as a helical wire strap, une bande à deformation de matière ou a spiral-wound strap may be considered in an adjustable steering column without departing from the field of the invention.

Asker: Thank you, It's the first time I come across this term, I have checked it on wikipedia which unfortunately has no French translation for this article and also in the Grand Dico: crumple zone= zone de déformation.
