Explanation:
Sounds to me more like this is part of the conveyor drive system, rather than the actual engine itself. I don't know much about them myself, but a quick Google on 'conveyor' + 'amplitude' threw up a number of interesting-looking links that I haven't looked into further.
This one looked the most promising, I thought:

General Kinematics - conveyor, screen, feeder, foundry equipment ...... Rigid bumpers transfer abnormal shock loads directly to the conveyor base and ... easy to service eccentric drive system with plenty of STROKE AMPLITUDE for heavy ...
