I'm pretty sure about the actual meaning, just not quite so sure about how we'd actually express it in EN.

Cf. radio stations that have a short 'profanity delay' between a live microphone and the on air feed, to give them time to react and beep out naughty words.

Of course, in broadcasting, 'en différé' means a non-live broadcast, as distinct from 'en direct' = live, as-it-happens.
