Medical - Medical: Cardiology / Disability Assessment
French term or phrase: évolution des symptômes
Letter from a family physician to an insurance company concerning a patient who suffers from chronic and disabling headaches.

"M. XXX semble avoir tendance à réagir à la douleur et autres symptômes avec 'a significant illness behaviour' selon le repport du psychologue YYY, ce qui nuit certainement à une bonne évolution des symptômes."

Would "évolution" have the sense of "improvement" here? TIA

improvement
Explanation:
I think you are right Wyley. Go with your own anwser:
...which certainly hinders any improvement.

Don't think you need the word "symptoms". They just refer to the fact that he's still ill.

OR go with Pawlik's answer which seems pretty good too.

progress in alleviating his complaints

Explanation:
In answer to your question, "bonne évolution" means improvement. His reaction to his problems makes them worse and more difficult to deal with.

symptomatic recovery/improvement of the symptoms

Explanation:
could go something like... which certainly represents an obstacle to symptomatic recovery/improvement of the symptoms.
I think it's better to keep the "symptoms" in - it could be an important insurance issue, say if he had a head injury that has itself apparently healed, but the headache is persisting and he wants compensation for the symptom.
