"breaking down" / "splitting up"

Explanation:
I believe it is referring to the idea of a batch being split up or broken down into other quantities, and the need to maintain traceability at this crucial stage.

Of course neither of my headword suggestions could be sued as a drop-in in a literal translation of the sentence as it stands, but I'm sure you could restructure the sentence so as to be able to work in the basic ideas.

Explanation:
Deducted from the general meaning of the French term and from my wife experience in the field (she is a lab technologist). Actually my wife used the term "disintegrate".

Peer comments on this answer (and responses from the answerer)
agree  Eric Bullington: I'd go with "before separation". I think it's making sure that the containers into which the platelets, etc will be transferred are correctly labeled with the same code as the souce container in order to insure tracability. See Sue's remarks.

division

Explanation:
this is what I would suggest: the division of the various blood components into separate containers.
But separation is good too, as per Jonathan's suggestion.

removal

Explanation:
before removal from the original container.

before transferring the contents

The blood products have already been processed. This is talking about maintaining traceability when the product is taken out of one container and put into another.
That's how I understand it. Otherwise, why refer to "sang, des composants sanguins ou des PSL"?
