Note that "range of motion" usually refers to joint rather than muscle movement and is used to assess joint flexibility.

United Kingdom
muscle excursions: full, intermediate, initial
Explanation:
see term "muscle excursion"in reference.
concept is dividing the contraction into initial, intermediate and full excursion of the muscles possible contraction. degree of contraction from relaxed to fully contracted.
newer weight training and rehabilitatin machines make specific use of this in their design. (I use a set of 10 of them at the health /fitness center.) Each phase gets worked separately by a cam changing the resistance.

agree  SJLD: certainly what it's all about but I'm not 100% convinced this is how a physio would say it/Dr Lotz is a fine translator and a good friend of mine - but like me he is not always right ;-)

-> My dear colleague - I do not have the luxury of knowing how a physio would say it. As a translator I have to find the viable references. Such is my life :-)//So, ultimately we are all in the same boat then :-)
