French term or phrase: codage
Good evening,

I am carrying out a translation in regards to hospital reforms carried out. However, at what point in the text they talk about "codage" and I am not sure what this is referring to, in particular it is in this sentence:

C'est pourquoi il est important de sensibiliser l'ensemble des participants medicaux, paramedicaux et sociaux. Chacun d'entre eux a un role a jouer dans l'amelioration du codage (transmissions ecrites des IDE, compte-rendus medicaux, ....)

I have tried searching for some info on it but cannot seem to get anything specific.

Thank you in advance.

Explanation:
Probably refers to 'ICD-10', which is the World Health Organisation's disease classfication system (http://www.who.int/classifications/icd/en/)-used across Europe and elsewhere to standardise diagnosis and treatment , as well as billing, as a 'common medical language'

There are other 'codes' that might fit in the context of your sentence however.

(procedure) coding

Explanation:
It refers to codes for different types of medical (or surgical) procedures, for billing and reimbursement purposes.

I don't know if there's a standard English term - you could use procedure to make it understood.
