I have problems transfering the notion of "communicating a space with the exterior of an implant" into English.
I cannot visualize a space being defined "entre elles" by holes, this also presents problems.
Any assistance with the above appreciated. |

I have problems transfering the notion of "communicating a space with the exterior of an implant" into English. I cannot visualize a space being defined "entre elles" by holes and then this space being communicated, etc. A space between holes does not seem like an open space you could "communicate," well, I don't know.
Any assistance with the above appreciated.
Yngve Roennike (asker): 2:13pm Jul 21, 2005: my own addendum - Actually, I think I figured it out just after posting, which sometimes happens, because you are forced to focus on it more. If that wasn't clear before, the word elles refers to the holes that enclose or delimit (define) a space, the space being the space formed by the U-shaped "band" in which the holes are located. The idea of "communicating" a space "out into the open," however, was new to me. It's a bit similiar to the Germanic word münden, udmunde, etc., i.e., leading out into the open.
Any comments or thoughts on the notion of communicating a space appreciated.

Yngve Roennike (asker): 10:31pm Jul 21, 2005: If anyone still is interested... - The reference was not to holes but parois, i.e., walls in which those holes are embedded. The holes form a U-shape defining or enclosing the space communicated with the exterior, etc.
The word parois occurred however a considerable distance from "elles" which is what caused my confusion. Patentese, or patent verbiage, will often place a referent at a considerable distance, but in French you have the gender indication to assist you finding it.

Explanation:
I think it means this: becuase bone is made of porous material, full of holes, the holes will join and regrow to link or join with the implant and form new bone.
