Hello,

Can anyone help me understand what "calques" refers to in the following sentence:

Un planning préopératoire précis doit être mené de façon routinière, sur la base de données radiographiques. Des calques sont disponibles dans ce but.

The sentence is from an instruction manual for an interphalangeal joint implant.

Analysis of deformity and subsequent correction are the basis for many orthopaedic surgical procedures. In advanced cases of joint degeneration, arthroplasty may be the only available treatment option. Until recently, these analyses and preoperative surgical plans have been performed using standard radiographs, tracing paper, and/or plastic overlays. Numerous customized, commercially available, computer-based preoperative planning software programs have been introduced.

The way the ST is worded, it doesn't sound like these "calques" are digital.

Yes, that's what they are. The surgeon superimposes the templates/overlays on the X-rays to select the size of the implant and guide decisions about positioning.

Asker: Thanks SJLD. Ah okay so it could mean tracing paper or acetate overlays used for sizing. I think I might go with your suggestion of templates. I found sizing templates here: http://www.totalsmallbone.com/us/pdfs/MKT10710RevB.pdf in the sentence: "Sizing templates with a 3% parallax enlargement are available."
