French term or phrase: Remise en solution/remettre en solution
Hi All,

I tend to get myself confused on a very basic thing with all the following terms:
remis/e en solution, reprendre/repris, reconstitué

Should it be resuspended, reconstituted, resolubilized or return/pass back to solution for remis en solution...

Here are examples of "remise en solution" in my text:

English translation:Re-dissolution / re-dissolving
Explanation:
From the context, given that the precipitate has come *out* of solution (which is what precipitate means, of course), we're now adding water to it to make it 'go back' into solution - i.e. re-dissolving the precipitate at whatever temperature it occurs at.

Just my take on it ... Others?

agree  SJLD: or "put back into solution"

agree  Zareh Darakjian Ph.D.: Yes, proteins will have different solubilities at different PH and temperature values. The pH matters because it changes the surface charge (lowest solubility at the isoelectic point pI).

resolubilized

Explanation:
seems the best word but resuspended might be used even if the French word is used resuspendu.

neutral  Zareh Darakjian Ph.D.: solubilize means to make a substance soluble, not through temperature or pH changes, but primarily through the addition of a detergent. // The mechanism or action of detergents (micelle formation) is sufficiently different from that of water's.

-> but in this case water is added and "la concentration en protéines est associée à la dilution du précipité" water can be considered as a solvent like a detergent would.
