Confidence? Reliability?
English translation:overlapping confidence intervals Explanation: confidence interval
An interval defined symmetrically about the mean value of the random sample, which contains in a given percentage of cases (normally 95 %) the true arithmetic mean of the consignment under test, homogeneous and for which the individual measured values wave practically a normal distribution.
Note :
This interval from (exposant \X \DELTA) to (exposant \X + \DELTA) is called the confidence interval. ((...)) The halflength, \DELTA, of the confidence interval is thus, for a given probability, the maximum value of the error made in estimating the true arithmetic mean of the consignment from the arithmetic mean of the random sample.

Pairs of points having overlapping confidence intervals are not considered significantly different.
OR:
Overlapping confidence intervals show no
significant differences were found.
OR:
Although the cumulative proportion of seroconversions differed significantly across the seven samples that specified the direction of transmission, the overlapping confidence intervals suggest that the incidence estimates across those samples may be homogeneous.

Explanation: This is almost certainly being used in its statistical sense, as in confidence interval, confidence limits, confidence coefficient all to do with probability. I think every translator should do a crash course in statistics ... it's amazing how often the subject creeps into texts on the most diverse topics: medicine, marketing, etc., etc.
The reference below is almost certainly out of print now (pub. 1970) but is worth its weight in gold.
