I don't know if you use "shock room" in Canada. We certainly didn't in Australia or the UK when I worked there.

agree  Michael Barnett: Resuscitation room is the correct Canadian idiom.

neutral  liz askew: interesting, especially as there are glossary entries for shock management/shock room:)/Sure but the query was "déchocage" not "salle de déchocage"/my own personal jury is out on this one.

-> in this question it's a place with a telephone - you can't call that "shock management" and "shock room" is apparently US English./no one is saying the glossary entries are wrong, but I don't think they apply here

Definitions on the ouèbbe vary enormously. There's even a "shock room" where electroshock treatment is administered. I have no medical training, but I imagine that is the last thing anyone needs when they are in a state of shock. So I feel it may be important to include "management" in there.

Some sites say the salle de déchocage is often part of the salle de réveil, crediting "resuscitation room" with some validity, but I can't help wondering if there are (at least) two sorts of salle de déchocage, one for those arriving at emergency in a state of shock (see various types above), and one for patients having undergone surgery.

While, as I say above, it is apparently possible that déchocage can be associated with post-operational trauma, the use of the word "emergency room" in the question and, above all, the following lead me to think it is a procedure carried out upon admission to the emergency dept, if not even before, e.g. at the accident site, in a helicopter, etc.

1 OBJET

I can't see the SMUR helicopter winching a man into the resuscitation room, somehow.

As for the telephone, maybe, just maybe it's a way of informing the shock management unit/team that they are required ...

neutral  SJLD: surgical patients can also go into shock, in which case they need resuscitating - the salle de déchocage is an area (bay, room) where this is done, preferably not within view of the other patients for obvious reasons

neutral  liz askew: SJLD is right....just took me a while longer to nail this and understand it.//Thank you for your comments however:)
