Medical (general) / rectal surgery
French term or phrase: complément de résection colique
The pathology report on a patient who has undergone anterior resection of the rectum refers to "le complément de résection colique". I'm unsure how best to translate "complément" in this context..."addition" sounds a bit odd..is it the remainder, i.e. what's left over after the surgery? I'm guessing again, and would be glad of some informed advice. TIA.

further resection specimen
Explanation:
If the resection margins contain cancer cells, further resection is performed. There may well be another way of expressing this but I'm afraid my mind is on my impending departure on motorbike in the pouring rain!

agree  Marilyn Amouyal: Sounds logical, or maybe supplementary. I was toying with recut, but that seems to be what the pathologist does with the embedded specimen. Dr Lotz should be able to help.
