Merriam-Webster gives a second meaning for "commoditize" that is not the same as its definition of "commodify" (which both it and the OED give as the older, more standard term). It fits here.
That said, 'commodification' still outpolls 'commoditis/zation' handily (4:1) in a Google search of webpages in English. Not a faux ami at all. Blame Karl Marx for it.

It's not a "faux ami" - both words mean the same thing in English. Wikipedia says: "Commodification (or commoditization) is the transformation of goods, ideas, or other entities that may not normally be regarded as goods[1] into a commodity."

See Marxist theory - of course, commodification is fine in English. "Marchandisation" in French.

Le terme commodification est un emprunt intégral à l'anglais qu'il faut éviter d'employer, car il fait inutilement concurrence à marchandisation.

Not in my everyday vocabulary, but perhaps it's the French term that is "false." ;-)
