French term or phrase: une immobilisation de type Dujarrier
Hello again

I am still on the report about a cameraman who was hit by a car while filming a car race.

I understand that this is a special type of bandaging for the upper extremity, but does anyone know what we call this in English?

Here is the context.

Concernant sa fracture de l'humérus gauche il portera une immobilisation de type Dujarrier qu'il gardera six semaines.

Thank you!

sling and swathe shoulder immobilizer
Explanation:
No English doctor will know what a Dujarier bandage is, so use a generic term. The important element is that the arm is fixed to the chest.

The simplest form is sling-and-swathe:

http://www.medtrng.com/special_operations_command_centr.htm

but there are also commercial sling-and-swathe shoulder immobilizers:

http://www.google.com/search?q=sling and swathe&oe=utf-8&rls...

which bear a canny resemblance to this:

http://www.main-epaule.fr/epaule-fracture-2.html

L’immobilisation de type Dujarrier ou de contention coude au corps soutient bien le fragment externe fracturé mais ne restitue pas la retropulsion.

Treatment

Treat the patient conservatively by closed reduction (with appropriate anesthesia) and immobilization. Perfect bony apposition is not essential. Minimal overriding is acceptable (Fig. 14.4A), but distraction of the humeral fragments is not (Fig. 14.4B). Immobilize the fractured humerus for 4 - 6 weeks in an arm-to-chest bandage (sling and swathe) or in a U-shaped plaster slab (Fig. 14.4C - F) with a triangular sling. The patient should begin daily shoulder exercises, continuing until the fracture is consolidated.
